Notwithstanding her flawless academic career, which took her to Tunisia, Spain and the United States, Leila Bouamatou can boast about being the first woman to head a banking institution in Mauritania.
Certainly, the daughter of the famous opponent of President Aziz did not choose the easy way out when she accepted back in 2018 to "return home" to take over the family bank. She made her debut as Head of the Treasury Board of the GBM in 2009, and two years ago became Director and General Manager of the GBM. A high-level position that she could brilliantly fulfill thanks to her solid experience in the field of international finance, while refreshing and revitalizing the management of this highly respected investment firm with an unprecedented modernity. Ranked among the 100 Economic leaders for tomorrow by the Choiseul Institute and Forbes magazine as well as the 10 Promising Young African business leaders, this "Afro-Capitalist" has nonetheless developed a social fiber. At 35 years old, she is proud to have succeeded in keeping a harmonized balance between her professional and family life.
